Figures recently published by the DoEHLG (Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government) has indicated that 80% of all housing starts for the year 2010 were for single units (source: DoEHLG Housing Statistics – Commencement Notices).
Published figures also now independently reveal the true number of available units, complete and vacant, evaluated as a proportion of future housing allocations quantified in the Regional Planning Guidelines 2010-2022. Notable local figures indicate less than 6 months housing stock in Cork City & Greater Cork Area, Waterford City, Limerick & Kerry Counties and between 6 to 12 months stock in Cork & Tipperary Counties.
