  • 339 housing units were registered in the first six months of 2012, 23.3% less than the same period 2011. 59 units were registered in the month of June – of which the majority were in Cork, Dublin and Louth.

  • 2,123 commencement notices were issued in the first six months of 2012, 77% of which were one-off / single builds. There was a noticeable spike in new commencements nationally during the month of June; especially in Dublin (145 units commenced – 105 in DLR) and Cork County (42 units commenced, 36 of which were one-off units).

Figures for H1 2012 indicate little upturn in residential construction activity and we can assume that output will remain in the region of 7,500 – 8,000 housing units by end 2012, which is significantly below estimated demand for new housing in the principle urban centres.
