Award Winning Contractors 2010…..

A BANTEER based company has not allowed the draconian economic outlook shake its progress and has picked up a national award at the Four Seasons in Dublin last week.
The MGroup picked up the Contractor of the Year Award at the prestigious event.  The MGroup, which encompasses the well known Murphy New Homes, Murphy Commercial and Star Elm, is spearheaded by managing director Willie Murphy.
With other construction companies going to the wall since the building boom went bust Mr Murphy is paying no heed to any downturn and is instead massively expanding his business. The award last Friday night was for a company which had a turnover of up to €20 million.
The Corkman caught up with him when he was in the middle of preparing the move of Star Elm, a window and door manufacturing company, which he purchased in County Clare and pumped €800,000  in June.
He is now in the process of moving it  lock, stock and barrel to a larger premises at Raheen Business Park in Limerick. When Mr Murphy took over Star Elm it had a staff of 22, by Monday last that number was a very impressive 72.
But it doesn’t end there, he has also established three depots in the midlands in England and all of the windows and doors  manufactured in Limerick will be exported to the three designated depots.
However, Mr Murphy said that he believes that the gap of support for a foreign investor compared to a local investor is “too wide and needs to be narrowed,” in Irish society.
Meanwhile, the MGroup has risen 55 places to Number 63 in the country to enter the Irish Construction Industry magazine top 100 construction companies in Ireland.
